HOW IT STARTED
Our life in personal care started with an important life changing event. The birth of our 1st born son, who to this day serves as an important catalyst. Our son was pretty much allergic to almost all leading brands for baby care. You name it, and our son was allergic to it. Our 24 years in research and development of formulations, and manufacturing of polymers came in handy when we resorted to making natural based soaps, cleansers, creams, and lotions for our first born. This eventually blossomed into making products for family, friends and beyond. Saint Cruz was founded on the concept of improving our children’s well-being while keeping things simple and natural. BUSINESS PROFILE
Saint Cruz Inc. is a personal care and cosmetics company. We are a custom formulator and manufacturer of natural based personal care and cosmetic products. We have several products certified by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the Bio-Preferred program. Our quality systems follow GMP processes and ISO 9001:2015. We have over two decades of Research & Development, Formulation and Manufacturing know how. Our team is dedicated to servicing your needs. Our company is uniquely positioned to provide “The Freshmetics Approach” to the public. This is a sustainable approach to combat the environmental crisis our world is facing; the never ending accumulation of plastic trash, forever chemicals, microplastics, etc.
Our approach, allows for minimal impact on the environment by using the 12 principles of green chemistry:
- Prevention – We believe it is better to prevent waste than to treat or clean up waste after it has been created.
- Atom Economy Our formulations yield a very high percentage of useful products used in the process to generate our final products.
- Less Hazardous Chemical Syntheses We prioritize very minimal to zero chemical syntheses. We use various cold pressed plant oils versus chemically extracted plant oils. Wherever practicable, synthetic methods should be designed to use and generate substances that possess little or no toxicity to human health and the environment
- Designing Safer Chemicals Chemical products should be designed to affect their desired function while minimizing their toxicity.
- Safer Solvents and Auxiliaries We do not use any auxiliary substances (e.g., solvents, separation agents, etc.) in our process and it should be made unnecessary wherever possible and innocuous when used.
- Design for Energy Efficiency Energy requirements of our formulation processes take into consideration environmental and economic impacts. Our production methods are typically conducted at ambient temperature to boiling temperatures no longer than a few minutes with zero pressure.
- Use of Renewable Feedstocks We love natural materials, and we prioritize upcycled raw materials. We prioritize and work with materials that are renewable rather than depleting. whenever technically and economically practicable.
- Reduce Derivatives We do not use any unnecessary derivatization (use of blocking groups, protection/ deprotection, temporary modification of physical/chemical processes) because such steps require additional reagents and can generate waste.
- Catalysis Catalytic reagents (as selective as possible) are superior to stoichiometric reagents.
- Design for Degradation We do not use any synthetics, microplastics or “forever chemicals” in our products. Our plant based formulations are designed so that at the end of their function they break down into innocuous degradation products and do not persist in the environment.
- Real-time analysis for Pollution Prevention We prefer to work with suppliers that utilize analytical methodologies to allow for real-time, in-process monitoring and control prior to the formation of hazardous substances. We do not generate any hazardous substances in any of our processes.
- Inherently Safer Chemistry for Accident Prevention We believe any material used in our production process should be chosen to minimize any potential for accidents, including releases, explosions, and fires. Such substances are non-existent in our production process. In fact, we currently upcycle our internally generated waste products into something useful for the environment.
